Making Friends

Making friends that you feel comfortable enough to really let your guard down with as you get older can be a challenge and it’s not getting easier with social media.

So how do you make friends when your over 16 and the whole “Want to be my friend?” is weird.

The conversations we have on social media are safe for a lot of people. It doesn’t matter if you are sitting at home in your pjs with unbrushed hair and no makeup. The other person can’t see you. You can be super fricken awesome.
The downside to this is when you see people post their personal info out there for all to see.

It suddenly gets quiet in facebook or twitter land or lots of likes happen but only four or five people comment.

More people are looking for advice on forums because they don’t feel they have a safe friend to talk to. You know the one that you can pick up the phone or have a coffee /drink and chat with and won’t judge.

Sure I’m glad that social media such as Facebook, twitter and Instagram keep me in touch with friends who don’t live close by and also in the loop with what’s going on in the world but are we missing the connections made through in person catchups and hearing a voice at the other end.

So my challenge to you and to myself is to choose two people that you may know on social media, have just met or haven’t talked to for a while and lock in a coffee, drink, or phone catchup.

Enjoy the moments
